Tom is a dynamic, innovative and people-focused leader...After an extensive national search, we believe he is the right person at the right time for Dartmouth Health’s academic medical center.
Patrick F. Jordan III, MBATom Manion, MPA, the current President and Chief Executive Officer of New London Hospital (NLH), has been named Chief Operating Officer of Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center (DHMC). NLH and DHMC are both members of Dartmouth Health.
As Chief Operating Officer, Manion will oversee the administrative and operational leadership of DHMC's acute care services, ambulatory and out-patient practices, ancillary services, research and Graduate Medical Education. In his role as COO, Manion will work to enhance operational processes and to establish procedures which can most effectively support the organization's priorities along with assuring that care delivery is high-quality and safe. Additionally, Manion will focus on growing and optimizing patient access, and continuing to maintain DHMC's financial stability.
"Tom is a dynamic, innovative and people-focused leader," said Patrick F. Jordan III, MBA, Chief Operating Officer of Dartmouth Health. "Under his guidance, NLH achieved significant milestones and accomplishments including executing a multi-million-dollar financial turnaround plan, and spearheading outstanding employee retention efforts and improving employee engagement. After an extensive national search, we believe he is the right person at the right time for Dartmouth Health's academic medical center."
Manion joined NLH in March 2020 at the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic, after serving as the Vice President of the University of Vermont Health Network's Porter Medical Group in Middlebury, VT. He successfully led the organization through an unprecedented time of stress and uncertainty. "The decision to leave behind an organization as dynamic and dedicated as NLH was not an easy one," said Manion. "I take comfort knowing I will still be in this wonderful community and still part of Dartmouth Health aligning our efforts for the future. I have no doubt that under the capable stewardship of our talented leadership team, NLH will continue to thrive."
Manion succeeds Jeff O'Brien, who retired in October. The NLH Board of Trustees will appoint an interim president and begin a thorough search for a successor. Manion will assume this new role on April 8, 2024.
