Adolescence comes with a unique set of challenges and opportunities. Living with a chronic medical condition such as epilepsy can make it more complicated. The Young Adult Epilepsy Transition Clinic is a new initiative by the Epilepsy Center. We focus on promoting young adults' independence while preparing them for changes in their lives and medical care.
As a young adult, you will receive specific counseling on subjects such as:
- Contraception
- Driving
- Drug and alcohol use
- Future employment
- School and other educational opportunities
Additionally, we will provide a series of exercises to help you:
- Become familiar with ways to communicate with your pharmacy and care team
- Develop a plan for managing your own medications
- Familiarize yourself with your medical history
After completing the transition program, young adults will already have care established with an adult epilepsy provider to continue care into adulthood.
