HOme Based Self-management and COgnitive Training CHanges Lives Phase III (HOBSCOTCH-III)

Efficacy of enhanced virtual HOBSCOTCH

Up to half of people with epilepsy report challenges with cognition, such as memory, thinking, and attention problems. While a certain level of forgetfulness is normal for people both with and without seizures, some of the memory challenges people face can be improved by identifying ways to cope with and manage them.

The HOBSCOTCH program is delivered through 9 one-on-one sessions with a certified memory coach who helps guide people with epilepsy towards strategies and solutions to help with their memory issues. In a previous study of the HOBSCOTCH program, participants saw improvements in quality-of-life scores and cognitive function. At this time, HOBSCOTCH is being offered at no cost through the HOBSCOTCH-III study.

The HOBSCOTCH-III study is evaluating an entirely-virtual delivery model of the original HOBSCOTCH program, and includes:

  • Epilepsy education
  • Memory strategies
  • Problems Solving Therapy
  • Relaxation exercises
  • Self-Awareness training

With virtual delivery, people from all regions of the country are able to participate in HOBSCOTCH.
