Advocacy and research participation
Many patients ask about ways they can contribute to long COVID research or advocacy.
Studies about the cause, prevention, treatment and prognosis of long COVID are occurring throughout the country. These are led by academic medical centers and pharmaceutical companies, often with the support of US government agencies. Clinical trials usually occur in cities. In those locations, there are enough patients who can easily travel to centers for tests and in-person evaluations.
There is also ample patient-led research underway.
The Post-Acute COVID Syndrome (PACS) Clinic is not conducting clinical research currently. We hope to offer research opportunities to patients in the future. We will notify our patients as opportunities arise.
Organizations enrolling participants in long COVID studies
- The National Institutes of Health's (NIH) RECOVER Initiative. It connects researchers with patients, caregivers and communities. The NIH’s long COVID page offers a list of current studies enrolling participants. Their mission is to:
- Understand the long-term effects of COVID
- Enable treatments
- Prevent the long-term effects of COVID
- The Patient-Led Research Collaborative. This organization was founded by researchers suffering from long COVID. In addition to publishing their own studies, they link visitors to ongoing studies and global research results.
