Our researchers are developing new techniques, prosthetics, and care protocols that may be used someday across the globe. You can take part in these research studies for added treatment options.
We are also working with other leading healthcare organizations, such as the Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, to create guidelines and protocols for orthopaedic doctors to use across the nation.
Orthopaedic oncology research
The Sarcoma and Connective Tissue Oncology Program at Dartmouth Cancer Center participates actively in clinical and basic science research that aims to improve the care of our patients. Our program belongs to three of these cooperative groups:
- The Alliance for Clinical Trials in Oncology
- The Sarcoma Alliance for Research through Collaboration (SARC)
- NRG Oncology
These national and international research partnerships allow us access to enroll our patients in state-of-the-art clinical research trials here in the Upper Valley. We are currently enrolling in local, national, and international clinical trials.
Clinical trials
We have many active trials that are enrolling patients across the system. A clinical trial/study is research in which people can participate and is one of the final steps in the process to look for better ways to prevent, diagnose, or treat your condition. The purpose of a clinical trial/study is to research the effectiveness of a treatment, medication, experimental drug, or device. Many of the standard treatments that patients receive today were developed based on the results of previous clinical trials.
