The dermatopathology service provides a full range of diagnostic services to facilitate treatment of skin disorders.
We receive and process specimens from a variety of sources, including Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center inpatients, as well as patients from outpatient dermatology clinics, clinics of family practice, and regional hospitals in New Hampshire and Vermont.
We also receive specimens from patients who have had initial diagnoses but need consultation or a second opinion review. The diagnostic capabilities cover the entire range of skin diseases and tumors, including:
- Cutaneous soft tissue and lymphocytic tumors
- Inflammatory skin diseases and alopecia
- Melanocytic lesions
In addition to evaluation by conventional histology, a variety of specialized immunological (immunohistochemistry and direct immunofluorescence) and molecular diagnostic techniques are available. Our goal is to deliver prompt services and provide diagnostic expertise related to the pathology of skin disorders for referring physicians.
