Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology provides consultations on inpatient and ambulatory patients with any drug-related problem including:
- Adverse effects
- Drug interactions
- Drug allergy
- Medication use in elderly patients
- Optimal use of therapeutic monitoring
- Use in patients with liver or kidney disease
We also see many ambulatory patients with possible exposures to various common chemical toxins. We are responsible for:
- Admitting patients with serious drug overdoses or chemical poisonings
- Providing consultative services on such patients admitted to other services as requested
We are also involved in a variety of experimental protocols for evaluating new types of medications, especially antineoplastic agents.
