Research interests

I am an Associate Professor of Psychiatry at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth in my third year of a three-year T32 Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Integrating Primary Care and Behavioral Health. My long-term career goal is to become a leading investigator who uses health services research and communication methods to improve care outcomes for older adults and their care partners. I am especially interested in addressing the significant and formidable gap in mental health support for care partners of patients living with dementia who reside in rural communities.

One project will identify a pathway for identifying care partners accompanying persons living with dementia to the latter’s annual visit with a primary care clinician, as well as offer care partners a novel digital method of screening for depression and referral for accessible treatment in accordance with the care partner’s preferences. A second project will survey primary care providers regarding their views of their role in caring for care partners of persons living with dementia as well as describe primary care providers’ interactions regarding the care partner’s health during routine office visits for the person living with dementia. Finally, we plan a qualitative study of how care partners manage their own health needs, given the major time constraints they encounter while giving care.
