Social workers in the Department of Psychiatry provide clinical mental health care and services to patients accessing care for psychiatric diagnoses. Social workers use clinical assessment skills to understand a patient’s biopsychosocial and psychiatric needs and strengths and develop clinical treatment plans in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team of psychologists, psychiatrists, and APRNs.
Clinical psychiatry social workers provide individual and group therapy using a variety of evidenced-based practice modalities. Clinical psychiatry social workers are based in a variety of areas, including:
- Addiction Treatment Program
- Behavioral Intervention team
- Collaborative care
- Crisis
- Pediatric psychiatry
MSW students in psychiatry will develop and practice skills in comprehensive assessment, clinical diagnostic tools, treatment planning, and clinical intervention with children, adults, and groups.
