Healthcare Talent Director of inSpring
Jason Garbarino is an accomplished nurse leader, educator, and clinician. He holds a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree from the University of Vermont and has an extensive background in nursing education and leadership. Dr. Garbarino spent eleven years at the University of Vermont (UVM), serving as the Vice Chair and Undergraduate Nursing Program Director with over 500 undergraduate students. He co-developed and taught their Clinical Nurse Leader (CNL) program curriculum, significantly contributing to both undergraduate and graduate nursing education. In 2022, Dr. Garbarino was the recipient of the Kroepsch-Maurice Excellence in Teaching Award, UVM's highest award for Teaching Excellence.
With over 16 years of clinical practice, Dr. Garbarino has worked as a registered nurse in various specialties, including 14 years of experience at the University of Vermont Medical Center (UVMMC), predominately in its Resource Department. With expertise in continuous system improvement, he was tasked to lead the integration of CNLs at UVMMC, an evidence-based strategy towards utilizing nurses to the top of their license.
Dr. Garbarino transitioned his clinical practice to primary care, leading integration of nurse-led Medicare Annual Wellness Visits (AWVs) to improve delivery of care to older Vermonters. He successfully led Apple Tree Bay Primary Care's efforts to become the first, Level-2 designated Age-Friendly Health System in the State of Vermont. Currently, he serves as a consultant for the Dartmouth Centers on Health and Aging. Through 2028, he will collaborate with the Dartmouth team in supporting Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) across Vermont and New Hampshire implement RN-led AWVs.
Dr. Garbarino is a prolific speaker and presenter, sharing his expertise in gerontology and nursing leadership at national and international conferences. He has also been a key figure in securing grant funding for initiatives aimed at improving nursing education, quality improvement, workforce development, and geriatric care. His commitment to advancing the nursing profession is further demonstrated through his numerous publications and including textbook sections on innovative teaching strategies and gerontological nursing.
His current passion is to help grow and diversify the professional nursing workforce. As Talent Director for Healthcare at inSpring, he is leading the growth and establishment, nationally, of new, academic-practice pipelines, for international nursing students. Dr. Garbarino serves as the Executive Director and Co-Founder of the Nursing is STEM Coalition, seeking to ensure proper designation of professional nursing as a STEM field, unlocking millions in funding for K-12 workforce initiatives and scholarships to grow and diversify the professional nursing workforce. He currently serves as an Advisory Member to the Green Mountain Care Board, and is an Advisory Board Member/Contributor for Forbes Education and Forbes Health.
